Devarim – Beis Hamikdash

Rav Yitzchak Isaac Chaver writes that the Beis Hamikdash was the most central place of the world. The Even Shesiyah – the foundation stone of the world was situated in middle of the Kodesh Hakodashim, and it was upon it that the earth expanded and was built. The Maharal explains further that the Beis Hamikdash is comparable to a heart that is in the center of a person and is the most important organ of the entire body. All of the limbs of the body receive their nourishment and sustenance from the heart. So too, the Beis Hamikdash was situated in the center of the world and provided life and existence. Through it, berachah and shefa were sent to all of Yisrael and their possessions and to the entire world.

Rav Yitzchak Isaac Chaver points out that the kedushah in the Beis Hamikdash was so great that things occurred there above and beyond the rules of nature. The Beis Hamikdash encompassed a unique power of life, with a spirit from Shamayim. Hashem miraculously showed some features of this life even in inanimate objects. Every being is made up of two parts, the chitzoniyus, the outside, and the p’nimiyus, the inside; this is often described as the body and the neshamah. The body is the outer form of a being, and the neshamah is placed inside. Just as a person’s neshamah is inside his body, so too, the Beis Hamikdash below had a spirit of life from the Beis Hamikdash in Shamayim which rested inside it. The Maharal explains further that the body is tafel to the neshamah. So too, the wood and stones of the Beis Hamikdash were tafel to the brightness and purity of the Shechinah, which was the main essence of the Mikdash. For this reason, the Beis Hamikdash, with its physical structure, did not function within the rules of nature, but rather with constant G-dly miracles that occurred above and beyond nature!

The Kuzari writes that we find four levels of being: domem, inanimate and immovable on its own; tzomei’ach, grows from the ground; chai, alive and movable on its own; and medaber, people who talk. In the Beis Hamikdash, the level of the domem was elevated to the level of the chai. The Beis Hamikdash was so holy and special that it even affected the level of domem, the inanimate objects, and implanted them with life, enabling them to be alive, move, or grow. (elaborated in the upcoming new sefer: Miracles of the Beis Hamikdash) Rav Gedalya Schorr deduces further that certainly us medabrim would be elevated and become inspired and influenced to grow and improve our entire being to serve Hashem better! May Hashem return His Shechina and rebuild the Third Beis Hamikdash bi’meheirah bi’yameinu, Amen!
