Chayei Sarah
The passuk states that Eliezer davened to Hashem to be successful with finding a shidduch for Yitzchak, he said “הקרה נא לפני היום” which literally means “let it happen before me today.” Onkelos translates the word הקרה with the lashon of הזמנה; “prepare for me on this day,” meaning let the shidduch be ready and let me find the girl immediately. Eliezer asks to find a maiden who will give him and his camels to drink and says “אותה הוכחת לעבדך ליצחק” which Rashi explains, since she does chessed she is the one fitting and proven to be the right one for Yitzchak. Here too Onkelos translates the word הוכחת with the lashon הזמנה, she is the one which You prepared to be the shidduch for Yitzchak. Also when Eliezer tells over the story to Lavan, he said “הוא האשה אשר הוכיח ה’ לבן אדני” which Rashi explains “she is the woman which Hashem has proven and is known to be the right one.” Onkelos once again translates הוכיח with the lashon of הזמנה, she is the woman which Hashem prepared to be the shidduch.
What does Onkelos hint with the lashon of הזמנה, prepared? The Nefesh HaGer explains that this reflects hashgachas Hashem, Hashem is the one who got the shidduch ready. Eliezer noticed and felt the hashgachas Hashem leading him and directing him with his mission from the beginning until the end: his trip was quickened as he had k’fitzas haderech, even before he finished davening Rivka came out to give him and the camels to drink, and she was from the right family!
The Chazon Ish said that people were able to clearly see the hashgachas Hashem by gedolim up until his generation. There were non-Jews who would push the Gaon HaRav Rav Moshe from Pinsk to walk through their fields because everyone knew that wherever he walked the place was bentched, and was successful. The city of Minsk had dangerous bad dogs that whoever passed by them would be injured. The entire city knew that when the Gadol from Minsk passed by, these dogs would run away. The Chazon Ish said about himself that when he was in Minsk, at the time of war, he did not have a passport. Whoever was caught without a passport would be shot immediately. He heard that the soldiers were coming to search the city so he fled from the city, but instead of running away from the enemy he ran towards the enemy, right where the soldiers were standing. The soldiers stood in two rows opposite each other and as he passed between them not one said a word or did anything to him. He said that he felt secure because he had just finished writing his sefer on hilchos Eiruvin. Said the Chazon Ish, “Whoever wants to see and notice hashgachas Hashem will notice.”
Even in our days we can personally notice hashgachas Hashem. The Gemara brings: when a person puts his hand in his pocket to take out a coin, and he pulls out the wrong one, he received yissurim, Hashem gave him a punishment. We can deduce that when one puts his hand in his pocket and finds what he was looking for, Hashem is helping him. There is nothing that happens by chance and we should take nothing for granted. Any good is a reflection of Hashem’s assistance and kindness.
